Here is a list of class guidelines designed to keep our classes running smoothly and focused on making music!
GYM EQUIPMENT: Please do not allow children to climb or use gym equipment before or after class. This is not covered by Mini Melodies or gym insurance!
PARTICIPATION: In this class it is very important for the adults to participate! The children learn their attitudes and motivations from you, and you can help them become enthusiastic music-makers just by enjoying the class and participating fully. You will be an excellent model regardless of your musical ability —a sense of fun is all that is required.Please socialize before and after class so we may keep our 45 minutes together as musical as possible!
YOUR CHILD: Children have the amazing ability to teach themselves through play, and even the most well-meaning adult can disrupt that process by giving too much direction. Allow your child to experience the class in his or her own unique way… whether it’s by moving constantly, sitting and staring, tasting the instruments rather than playing them, etc. We know from working with children over the years that each child is busily processing the musical information, even if it is not apparent during class activities. Trust this process, relax, and let your child be, and you will begin to see new musical behaviors emerging as the semester progresses.
SAFETY: Please do give direction for safety however. We do not allow running in class, please redirect your child to skip, hop or walk rather than run. We also ask you to interfere if your child is hitting the dance mirrors. Although they are securely fixed to the wall, it is still a safety risk to hit them.
TIMELINESS: Please arrive a few minutes before your class so we may begin on time! It will make your child's adjustment easier. It is often difficult for a child to enter a class already in session. Please make a point to be here for the Hello Song, so your child feels properly welcomed. When you do come into the classroom, please remove everyone's shoes and make name tags for yourself and your child(ren).
FOOD & TOYS: We prefer to keep our 45 minutes together as musical as possible. We request that you leave toys at home so your child can focus on the class. Please feel comfortable to nurse or bottle feed your baby in class, but we ask that you limit food or drink in the classrooms. Drinks can be kept in your bag for a "quick sip" if necessary. If your child needs a snack, please take them outside the circle to avoid inspiring other young snackers. Please be courteous to keep the room clean.
GUESTS:Adult caregivers are welcome at any time. Please read and explain these guidelines to them before they come. We request that, if possible, visitors participate rather than watch. Siblings and friends need to register with the Parks and Rec office but are welcome! Please try to let us know in advance of guest attendance.
CANCELLATIONS: Class may be canceled due to weather, teacher illness or other unavoidable circumstance. If a class must be canceled we will do our best to extend the semester by a week. If that isn't possible, you can do a make up in another class. If class needs to be canceled it will be posted on facebook, our website, and we will send out a class e-mail.
CAMERAS: We allow for photography/filming of your child on our last day of class. We also tend to share the photos that we have taken so you won't miss our on any musical memories! Also, please share your photos/videos on our facebook page!
*****If your child has had fever, vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, please do not bring them to class.***** Help us keep everyone healthy!
